Scutigerella dominicana was named by Poinar and Edwards (1995). Its type specimen is Poinar SAY-1-1 and is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (Poinar coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
