Taxonomy
Pygorhynchus gouldii was named by Bouve (1846). Its type specimen is Boston Soc. Nat. Hist. 1756A, a test, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Cassidulus (Pygorhynchus) gouldii by Clark and Twitchell (1915); it was recombined as Procassidulus (Hardouinia) gouldii by Lambert and Thiéry (1921); it was recombined as Cassidulus (Cassidulus) gouldii by Cooke (1942); it was recombined as Cassidulus gouldii by Cooke (1959).
