Taxonomy
Onchocephalus palupus was named by Fritz (1968). Its type specimen is USNM 153529, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pioche Shale, Bed 2, which is in a Dyeran carbonate limestone in the Pioche Shale Formation of Nevada.
