Stenodictya lusitanica was named by Correia et al. (2014). Its type specimen is UP-MHNFCP-127180, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is São Pedro da Cova (UP-MHNFCP collection), which is in a Stephanian C lacustrine shale in Portugal.
