Taxonomy
Punctospirifer was named by North (1920) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 47,955]. Its type is Pustulospiriferina etheridgei. It is the type genus of Punctospiriferidae.
It was assigned to Spiriferinidae by Hoare (1961); to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Punctospiriferidae by Williams et al. (2006).
