Pustuloplica was named by Waterhouse (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-m P Guad Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. Its type is Pustuloplica baccata.

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Brachythyrididae by Williams et al. (2006).
