Taxonomy
Proetus girvanensis was named by Nicholson and Etheridge (1879). It is the type species of Paraproetus, Neoproetus (Paraproetus).

It was recombined as Paraproetus girvanensis by Přibyl (1964), Jell and Adrain (2002) and Owens (2004).

Synonyms
  • Proetus procerus was named by Etheridge and Nicholson (1879).

    It was synonymized subjectively with Proetus girvanensis by Begg (1939).
