Rorespirifer was named by Waterhouse and Piyasin (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. Its type is Rorespirifer ruinosus.

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Crassumbidae by Williams et al. (2006).
