Taxonomy
Scenesia was named by Cooper and Grant (1976) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-l Sepkoski's reference number: 7]. Its type is Scenesia extensa. It is the type genus of Scenesiinae.

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Scenesiinae by Williams et al. (2006).
