Taxonomy
Telmatherium validus was named by Marsh (1872) [genotype]. Its type specimen is YPM 11120, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Telmatherium.

It was recombined as Telmatotherium validus by Earle (1891); it was corrected as Telmatherium validum by Hay (1902).
