Sulciplica was named by Waterhouse (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: P Sakm-l P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 62,712]. Its type is Sulciplica transversa.

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Trigonotretinae by Williams et al. (2006).
