Theodossia was named by Nalivkin (1925) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give D Fame Sepkoski's reference number: 25]. It is the type genus of Theodossiinae, Theodossiidae.
It was assigned to Costispiriferidae by Savage and Baxter (1995); to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Theodossiinae by Williams et al. (2006).
