Taxonomy
Brachypotherium americanus was named by Yatkola and Tanner (1979). Its type specimen is KUMVP 9857, a partial skull (a nearly complete skull), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Martin Canyon Quarry A, which is in a Hemingfordian channel horizon in the Pawnee Creek Formation of Colorado.
It was recombined as Teleoceras americanum by Prothero (2005).
