Taxonomy
Rhaetomyia herrigi was named by Ansorge (1996). Its type specimen is LGA 1189, a wing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Klein Lehmhagen pit, Grimmen (LGA collection), which is in a Toarcian offshore shale in Germany.
