Wilberrya was named by Yancey (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: P Sakm P Leon-u Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. Its type is Wilberrya fragilis.

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Eudoxinidae by Williams et al. (2006).
