Zhejiangospirifer was named by Liang (1982) [Sepkoski's age data: P l Sepkoski's reference number: 881 in Wang et al.]. Its type is Zhejiangospirifer depressus.

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tangshanellinae by Shen et al. (2003) and Williams et al. (2006).
