Taxonomy
Atrypina was named by Hall and Clarke (1893). Its type is Leptocoelia imbricata. It is the type genus of Atrypinidae.

It was assigned to Atrypida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Atrypininae by Bassett and Cocks (1974) and Williams et al. (2002).
