Taxonomy
Manticoceras oxy was named by Clarke (1897). Its type specimen is NYSM 3748, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Carinoceras oxy by Korn and Klug (2002); it was recombined as Sphaeromanticoceras oxy by House and Kirchgasser (2008).
