Taxonomy
Holcodiscus recopei was named by Douvillé (1910). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerro Negro de Covunco (Recopé collection), which is in a Hauterivian transition zone/lower shoreface siltstone/limestone in the Agrio Formation of Argentina.

It was recombined as Holcoptychites recopei by Aguirre-Urreta and Rawson (2003).
