Ammonites biplex bifurcatus was named by Quenstedt (1847) [Ammonites parkinsoni bifurcatus].

It was recombined as Perisphinctes (Dichotomoceras) bifurcatus by Atrops and Benest (1984), Schlegelmilch (1994) and Pandey et al. (2012).

D.K. Pandey et al. 2012Shell small, evolute, depressed. Whorl section slightly subquadrate with arched lanks, which merge smoothly into the well rounded venter (Fig. 54A). Ornamentation consists of sharp primary ribs bifurcating slightly below the ventrolateral region. Occasionally, primaries split just above the umbilical margin (Fig. 54B). Secondaries cross the venter with slight forwarddirected convexity. Constrictions moderately distinct.
