Neumayriceras externnodosum was named by Dorn (1930) [Locus typicus : Jura (France)]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Taramelliceras (Strebliticeras) externodosum by Atrops and Benest (1984); it was recombined as Streblites externnodosus by Schlegelmilch (1994); it was recombined as Taramelliceras externnodosum by Schairer and Schlampp (2003); it was recombined as Taramelliceras (Taramelliceras) externnodosum by Dorn (1931) and QuƩreilhac (2009).
