Leptaena duplicata was named by de Sowerby and Murchison (1839). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Eoplectodonta duplicata by Baarli (1995); it was recombined as Eoplectodonta (Eoplectodonta) duplicata by Dewing (1999) and Cocks (2005).
