Strophomena vetusta was named by James (1874). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Streptorhynchus (Strophomena) vetusta by James (1874); it was corrected as Strophomena subtenta by James (1874); it was recombined as Rugomena vetusta by Rõõmusoks (1993).
