Taxonomy

Scaphites puerculus was named by Jimbo (1894). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Otoscaphites puerculus by Matsumoto (1960); it was recombined as Yezoites puerculus by Yazykova et al. (2004) and Tanabe (2022).

Yezoites planus was named by Yabe (1910). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Otoscaphites planus by Jones et al. (1978); it was recombined as Scaphites planus by Yazykova et al. (2004) and Jagt-Yazykova et al. (2021); it was synonymized subjectively with Yezoites puerculus by Tanabe (2022).
Yezoites teshioensis was named by Yabe (1910).

It was recombined as Otoscaphites teshioensis by Jones (1967); it was synonymized subjectively with Yezoites puerculus by Tanabe (2022).
Scaphites pittensis was named by Anderson (1958). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 1293A - Millville [Member II], which is in a Turonian marine siliciclastic in the Redding Formation of California.
