Ammonites cultratus was named by d'Orbigny (1841) [DISTRIBUTION: Hauterivian; Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Oosterella.
It was recombined as Oosterella cultratus by Avram and Gradinaru (1993) and Vasicek (2002); it was recombined as Oosterella cultrata by Reboulet (1996) and Gonzalez-Arreola and Barragan (2007).
