Lyrogoniatites cloudi was named by Miller and Youngquist (1948). It is the type species of Pachylyroceras.
It was recombined as Neoglyphioceras cloudi by Gordon (1964); it was recombined as Pachylyroceras cloudi by Ruzhentsev and Bogoslovskaya (1971) and Korn and Titus (2015).
