Taxonomy
Girtyoceras welleri was named by Gordon (1964). Its type specimen is WMUC 9619, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Moorefield (Weller collection), which is in a Brigantian carbonate limestone in the Moorefield Formation of Arkansas.
