Orthis subaequata was named by Conrad (1843). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Dalmanella subaequata by Hall and Clarke (1892); it was recombined as Pianodema subaequata by Wilson (1949); it was recombined as Pionodema subaequata by Cooper (1956) and Li and Copper (2006).
