Taxonomy
Rhynchonella (Stegerhynchus) whitiipraecursor was named by Foerste (1909). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Stegerhynchus.

It was recombined as Stegerhynchus praecursor by Jones (1981) and Jin (1989).
