Rhynchonella ancillans was named by Barrande (1879). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Ancillotoechia.
It was recombined as Ancillotoechia ancillans by Kulkov (1967), Bassett and Cocks (1974), Rubel and Rozman (1977) and Musteikis and Modzalevskaya (2002).
