Diplotrypa hvergelmi was named by McNamara (1978). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Garbourn Nook, Troutbeck, Kendall. (Locality 4), which is in a Cautleyan carbonate siltstone in the Kirkley Bank Formation of the United Kingdom.
