Cleistosphinctes was named as a genus. It is not extant. Its type is Leptosphinctes cleistus.

It was reranked as Leptosphinctes (Cleistosphinctes) by Besnosov and Mitta (1993) and Galacz (2012).

It was assigned to Leptosphinctinae by Arkell et al. (1957); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Leptosphinctes by Besnosov and Mitta (1993) and Galacz (2012).
