Taxonomy
Pseudotissotia coahuilaensis was named by Jones (1938). It is the type species of Spathites, Spathites (Spathites).

It was recombined as Spathites coahuilaensis by Cobban (1988); it was misspelled as Spathites (Spathites) coahuilensis by Kennedy and Cobban (1988); it was recombined as Spathites (Spathites) coahuilaensis by Wright et al. (1996).
