Taxonomy
Ammonites chicoensis was named by Trask (1856). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Schloenbachia chicoensis by Anderson (1902); it was recombined as Mortoniceras (Submortoniceras) chicoense by Anderson (1958); it was recombined as Submortoniceras chicoense by Matsumoto (1959) and Haggart and Ward (1989).
