Taxonomy

Ammonites chicoensis was named by Trask (1856). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Schloenbachia chicoensis by Anderson (1902); it was recombined as Mortoniceras (Submortoniceras) chicoense by Anderson (1958); it was recombined as Submortoniceras chicoense by Matsumoto (1959) and Haggart and Ward (1989).

Synonyms

Mortoniceras (Submortoniceras) randalli was named by Anderson (1958). Its type specimen is CAS 27838.08, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 27838, Chico Creek, which is in a Campanian marine sandstone in the Chico Formation of California.

It was synonymized subjectively with Submortoniceras chicoense by Matsumoto (1959).
Schloenbachia buttensis was named by Anderson (1902). Its type specimen is UCMP 12096, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 1125, mile west of Pentz, which is in a Campanian marine sandstone in the Chico Formation of California.

It was recombined as Mortoniceras (Submortoniceras) buttense by Anderson (1958); it was synonymized subjectively with Submortoniceras chicoense by Matsumoto (1959).
Mortoniceras (Submortoniceras) pentzanum was named by Anderson (1958). Its type specimen is CAS 27838.11, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 27838, Chico Creek, which is in a Campanian marine sandstone in the Chico Formation of California.

It was synonymized subjectively with Submortoniceras chicoense by Matsumoto (1959).
Schloenbachia gabbi was named by Anderson (1902).

It was recombined as Mortoniceras (Submortoniceras) gabbi by Anderson (1958); it was synonymized subjectively with Submortoniceras chicoense by Matsumoto (1959).
Schloenbachia templetoni was named by Hall and Ambrose (1916).

It was recombined as Mortoniceras (Submortoniceras) templetoni by Anderson (1958); it was synonymized subjectively with Submortoniceras chicoense by Matsumoto (1959).
