Taxonomy
Aenigmathyris was named by Cooper (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo Sepkoski's reference number: 882]. Its type is Aenigmathyris stearnsi. It is the type genus of Aenigmathyridinae.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aenigmathyridinae by Williams et al. (2006).
