Schizodus crowcombeia was named by Moore (1861). It is the type species of Pteromya.

It was recombined as Pteromya crowcombeia by Cox (1963) and Marquez-Aliaga et al. (2010).

Synonyms
  • Pteromya simplex was named by Moore (1861). It is not extant.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Pteromya crowcombeia by Cox (1963).
