Amygdalocosta was named by Waterhouse (1967) [Sepkoski's age data: P Tatr]. Its type is Amygdalocosta rara.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dielasmatinae by Williams et al. (2006).
