Spiriferina alpina was named by Oppel (1861). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Liospiriferina alpina by Dulai (1992), Siblik (1993), Alméras and Fauré (2000), Alméras et al. (2007), Vörös (2009) and García Joral et al. (2011).
