Antistrix was named by Johnson (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give Sepkoski's reference number: 25]. Its type is Antistrix invicta. It is the type genus of Antistrixidae.

It was assigned to Antistrixidae by Johnson (1972); to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Antistrixinae by Williams et al. (2006).
