Taxonomy
Boreiothyris was named by Dagys (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call J Kimm Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. Its type is Boreiothyris bojarkaensis. It is the type genus of Boreiothyrididae.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Boreiothyrididae by Williams et al. (2006).
