Taxonomy
Metalopex macconnelli was named by Tedford et al. (2009). Its type specimen is LACM 55237, a partial skull (crushed skull (fig. 24A–C) with I1–M2 and both ramal fragments including p3–p4 broken, m1 in- complete alveolus, isolated m2 trigonid (fig. 24D), and a broken i), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Red Rock Canyon, which is in a Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Dove Spring Formation of California.
