Ceramisia was named by Cooper (1983) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio Sepkoski's reference number: 882]. Its type is Terebratula meneghiniana.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aenigmathyridinae by Williams et al. (2006).
