Taxonomy
Cererithyris was named by Buckman (1917) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo-u J Bath-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1,882,1013]. Its type is Terebratula intermedia. It is the type genus of Cererithyridinae.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cererithyridinae by Williams et al. (2006).
