Astrocladia was named by Zittel (1878) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant K Maes]. It is not extant. Its type is Asterospongia laevis. It is the type genus of Astrocladiidae.
It was assigned to Lithistida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Astrocladiidae by Finks et al. (2004).
