Taxonomy
Cheirothyropsis was named by Makridin (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call-m Sepkoski's reference number: 882]. Its type is Terebratula pseudotrigonella. It is the type genus of Cheirothyropsidae.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cheirothyropsidae by Williams et al. (2006).
