Taxonomy
Cheniothyris was named by Buckman (1917) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1]. Its type is Terebratula morierei. It is the type genus of Cheniothyrididae.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cheniothyrididae by Williams et al. (2006).
