Taxonomy
Rhynchonella thalia was named by d'Orbigny (1850). It is the type species of Tropiorhynchia.

It was recombined as Tropiorhynchia thalia by Muir-Wood (1928); it was recombined as Piarorhynchia thalia by Ager (1962).
