Taxonomy
Cretirhynchia exsculpta was named by Pettitt (1950). Its type specimen is B.M. [B.79824] and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Brighton or Friar's Bay, which is in a Santonian carbonate chalk in the Upper Chalk Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Cretirhynchia (Lewesirhynchia) exsculpta by Simon and Owen (2001).
