Electrotettix attenboroughi was named by Heads and Thomas (2014). Its type specimen is INHS 10175, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (Illinois NHS coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
