Taxonomy
Cranaena was named by Hall and Clarke (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 4,25,400]. Its type is Terebratula romingeri. It is the type genus of Cranaeninae.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cranaeninae by Campbell and Engel (1963) and Williams et al. (2006).

Synonyms
  • Eunella was named by Hall and Clarke (1894).

    It was synonymized subjectively with Cranaena by Doescher (1981).
